Mixed Media Life Drawing 10 December 2008

Our group met for the last time this year and again I made some took some collaged printmaking paper along, A2 size. I spend so long picking out particular pieces of paper that I want to put on these, forgetting that much of it will be obscured with paint and then dry media.

I used compressed charcoal and conte mainly.

Sandra - thank you so much for your comments on my blog. It's so rare that I get any comments - you've inspired me to post more often! I really enjoyed your portraits and fascinating use of backgrounds. Your work is really marvelous.

Thank you Denise! I think the weekly drawing sure has its effect. And I got a bit bored just drawing on plain paper, so decided try the collage and I'm liking it more and more.

HI Sandra,
I was wondering if you pre perpare the paper back ground before you get into the life drawing class. or do you do it all there on the spot. Cause I know with my collaging I have to let it dry first. Just some really great piece.

Laura, I prepare it ahead of time...that afternoon usually! I use binder medium to glue the paper to the printmaking paper, it dries fast! Have to work quickly with it. I try to lay out the papers first and arrange them. Then, straight away, I use acrylic paint, and an acrylic painting medium (water would be ok) and brush over the colours, and wipe it away with rags. It then has a couple of hours to finish drying before I leave.
